 1.  Richmond.

Freinds & Family

We had plenty of braais with family and friends during our stay in Richmond, several at our house but also at other places.

Veronica and Matt's Wedding

Our great-niece, Veronica got married to Matt in March. The weather was perfect and we all had a wonderful day.

Ron's dad died a few years ago so she was walked down the first part of the aisle by her brothers, Jason and Mark, and then by her Grandad.

 Richmond MOTHs

The Richmond MOTHs had a couple of events where they provided the food so, as usual, we went along to help. The Canoe Event was the first time they'd used Beaulieu Dam, they loved it and have said they'll use it again.

Diana and David's visit.

Di and David had been to Richmond a couple of times before but that was before we moved to Benjamin Street so they were keen to see our house.  Paula was away at Splashy Fen Music Festival so Di and I went round each morning to groom the horses and a couple of times went out on a short ride - it was over 40 years since Di had ridden!!

We had several meals outside in the evening.

We took Di and David to the Pietermaritzburg Botanic Gardens and enjoyed a morning walk around the grounds.

We then visited Butterflies for Africa (also in Pietermaritzburg) which is an enclosed building with colourful butterflies - almost impossible to get a decent photo of the flying and, of course, when they stop they fold their wings up!

There was a wall cabinet which had pupae hanging in rows and we were lucky enough to see a butterfly emerging from a pupa in the first photo.  A few minutes later it was much bigger (second photo). We were told that it could be several hours before the wings are strong enough for it to fly.

A little later we could make out some colour on the wings.

Happy Wanderers

After Di & David left and just before we returned to the UK we spent a few days at Happy Wanderers Resort on the South Coast with Geoff and Paula. We enjoyed several lovely walks along the beach.  Geoff and Paula stayed in one of the first floor apartments and we were in our van, parked up just behind the apartments.
