Botswana, February 2012 - Khama Rhino Sanctuary

Khama Rhino Sanctuary is a great place to stay between South Africa and Maun. We planned to stay for 2 nights and ended up staying for an extra night. The Reserve was set up to provide a place where rhino could bred and then be relocated to other parts of Botswana. There are also plenty of other animals around.

Malema Pan in the early morning - not much about...

.... however when we returned later in the morning there were lots of animals - rhino, zebra, eland and springbok.

More action at the waterhole on Malema Pan.

Eland fighting.

A giraffe passing by in the background.

A warthog family at the small waterhole where there was a hide.

This zebra foal looked quite young and had to run to keep up with mum.

There were always birds and animals around the campsite - tree squirrels, hornbills, francolins, go-away birds and starlings. This tree squirrel enjoyed a corn husk after the francolins had pecked away at it.

Relaxing in the shade.

This is a cape starling feeding its baby - a great spotted cuckoo!

A woodpecker tapping away on a branch looking for insects.
