Eastern Cape 2009 - Addo Elephant National Park

This Park now covers a huge area from the mountains to the sea and offers a wide range of activities including game-viewing, hiking trails, horseback trails and a 4x4 trail. We stayed 3 nights at the main camp in the Park where we did some game viewing.

We saw plenty of elephants. One group, consisting of 25 to 30 elephants, took their time crossing the road in front of us.

There's a good lookout point at the top of a hill and we were able to see this group crossing the road and then making their way through the bush to a waterhole.

Dung beetles have right of way on the roads!!

We saw quite a lot of other animals, especially kudu and warthogs. I went on a night drive which was excellent, mainly because our guide was so passionate about what he was doing - and brilliant at spotting animals with his spotlight! We saw elephant, hyena, black-backed jackal, ostrich, kudu and, briefly, in the distance, a caracal creeping up on a spring hare.

A couple of young warthogs 'playing'.

Hyena (seen on a night drive).

Mongoose

Pale Chanting Goshawk

After we left the Main Camp we drove through the Zuurberg mountains, one of the parts of the park where there are hiking trails.
