Zambezi River, Caprivi Strip, Namibia |
Our third stop in the Caprivi Strip was at Island View Lodge (S17 32.642 E24 31.316) www.islandvl.com , yet another campsite right on a river, this time the Zambezi and, once again, very friendly and helpful owners. During this trip we only used gas for cooking once, the rest of the time we used firewood or charcoal. We bought a cooking pot, called a potjie (pronounced poikie), before this trip and it's been great for using over an open fire. |
We saw lots of birds at this campsite, more than anywhere else. Above is a colony of Carmine Bee-Eaters and below a Little Bee-Eater and a White-Fronted Bee-Eater. |
There were lots of fish in the river next to the campsite and several cormorants fishing for them. |
We saw this guy each morning and evening arriving in a Mokoro and setting / checking his fishing nets on the opposite bank to the campsite. He used some old clothes on a couple of posts to frighten off the cormorants. |
