Campsites - Mozambique.

If you go to Mozambique outside the South African school holidays then there's no need to book. From Vilanculos southwards many of the sites quote prices in Rand but will also take Meticas.

The map shows the campsites that we have used in Moz. Below the map is information about them listed in alphabetical order. The prices are for the date that we stayed at the site.

Barra. Ponta da Barra Lighthouse Camp. Sept 2012.

Location: S23 47.609 E35 32.227

Website: www.barralighthouse.com

Cost: R100 pppn.( M330)

Ablutions: Clean. Hot water.

Electric: Yes for R10 per day.

Other: You need a 4x4 to reach the site as there's loose sand to go through. This was our favourite site in Mozambique. It's in a wonderful location overlooking the bay -great sunsets and there's plenty of shade. The owner, Dennis, will make you feel very welcome and will organise activities (fishing / visits to the islands etc) if you ask. There's a sandy beach and also some rock pools at low tide which are good for snorkeling. Dennis offers food on some evenings - well worth it. His stuffed calamari was delicious and good value. Other: The campsite is very small and right next to the beach but we felt safe there. DO NOT stay there on a Friday or Saturday night unless you want to be up all night as the music from the bar/restaurant is LOUD (we were warned by the manager). There's no shade and if it's windy you're very exposed.
