Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife Reserves 2010 - Cape Vidal

Cape Vidal is another camp within the Isimangaliso Wetland Park with just the dunes between the camp and the Ocean.

The campsite was busier than the previous one we'd stayed at as it's very popular with fishermen but the sites further from the beach access track were nice and quiet.

Once we'd set up camp we strolled down to the beach. The dunes are heavily forested so this is the first sight of the sea as you walk along the path over the dunes.

To our right there were a few fishermen and a couple of people snorkeling in the sheltered bay but to our left the beach was deserted.

Cape Vidal beach.

We went for a drive around the reserve, seeing kudu, warthog, buffalo, waterbuck, bushbuck and zebra.

Buffalo.

Male kudu.

Later we stopped at a site overlooking Lake St Lucia. There were plenty of birds on the lake shore and in the distance we could see a large group of flamingoes.

At all the reserves on this trip we've seen plenty of butterflies. I've tried to take photos of them but mostly they either fold up their wings or fly away before I can get close enough.
